Bill was born September 5, 1928, in Solen, ND and spent the early years of his life farming. Bill married Helen Leingang 70 years ago and had 3 children, Cindy Scott (Tim) of Bismarck, Kim House (Kevin) of Bismarck and Kevin W. Kuntz (Cheryle) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
Bill and Helen moved to Mandan where Bill started work clearing snow for the railroad. Bill then worked at the local lumber yard where he delivered lumber to the house, he would eventually buy in 1962 where he raised his family and lived for 60 years. While working at the lumber yard he met Julius Froeschle, Founder of Froeschle and Sons. Mr. Froeschle hired Bill and he spent 33 years with the company eventually becoming one of the owners up until his retirement.
Some of Bill’s favorite projects he built were Med Center One (Sanford Hospital), St. Alexius (CHI), Mid Dakota Clinic and Bismarck School of Nursing to just name a few.
After retirement Bill worked part time at Med Center One where he enjoyed being around the nurses and medical staff in his role as resident carpenter, a craft that he truly loved.
When Bill was truly retired, he spent his time helping his kids and granddaughters remodeling their homes and doing many projects well into his mid-80s.
Bill and Helen have 6 granddaughters, Sarah Watson, Chelsea Bittner, Hailey Pomonis of Bismarck, Heather Zachmeier of Mandan, Jackie Kuntz and Michelle Barbosa of Atlanta and 6 great grandchildren with number 7 on the way in April. He is also survived by brothers August and Joe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Rose Kuntz and in-laws George and Rose Leingang, brothers Vince, Jake, Paul, Alphonse and sisters Bertha, Caroline, Annie and Irene, brothers-in-law Frank, Ray, Leo, Arnie and sisters-in-law Caroline, Leona, baby Janice and Janice.
Bill will be remembered as a very generous man and a good neighbor. He enjoyed snow plowing his neighbors’ driveways and when asked by our beloved neighbor Regina Shanandore what she owed him, he would always reply “Just lay a couple rosaries on me”. Well done my good and faithful servant.
The family would like to thank all the people who took such good care of Bill, especially all medical personal including Sanford Hospice, Dr. Brown, Dr. Addo, Dr. Price, Dr. Mahr, Dr. Elena Raducu, Dr. Litchfield and Michael Henke, PA.
