Lena Rose Tiokasin, 78, Ft. Yates, passed away December 7, 2021, at Augusta Place in Bismarck.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 15 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ft. Yates with Msgr. Chad Gion celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Rosary and Parish Vigil will be held on Tuesday, December 14 at 7:00 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Lena was born September 1, 1943, in Ft. Yates, ND to Moses and Marie (Brave Bull) Tiokasin. She was raised and educated in Ft. Yates, graduating in 1961. She was united in marriage iin 1962 to Bill Vermillion in Los Angeles, CA. She was employed as a dental assistant with Dr. Frost in downtown Los Angeles for 25 years. Leaving Dr. Frost, she was employed with California Immigration service for 15 years. She returned home to Ft. Yates in 2002. She loved going to the casino with her nephew, Virgil, friend Mary Lou and niece Helen. Lena was unable to have children, so she would make sure that nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren never went without during the holidays. She was the most beautiful, kind and compassionate woman.
Lena is survived by nieces: Laura Tiokasin, Norma Alexander, Bernalyn Tiokasin, Josephine Green, Anne Marie Oothoudt and Loretta Toledo; nephews: Virgil Tiokasin, Bill Kuntz, Charlie Jamerson and Theodore Jamerson; grandchildren: Scott Tiokasin, Jackie Weinberger, Sarah (Tiokasin) Salas, Tika Plenty Chief, Jordan Tiokasin, Wynd Tiokasin, Cheyenne (Tiokasin) Cash, Eden Tiokasin, Sierra Tiokasin, Jerrica Yellow, Payton Tiokasin; Cody Ducheneaux, Kyler Ducheneaux, Jayson Running Hawk, Princess Craion, Derek Jamerson, Erika Jamerson, Stephanie Summers, Michele Oothoudt, Mardell Oothoudt; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill, Vermillion; sisters, Norma Tiokasin Jamerson and Sophie Tiokasin Kuntz; brothers, George Tiokasin, Bernard Tiokasin, Cliff Tiokasin and Albert Tiokasin.
