Minnie Schlinger, 89, Mandan, died May 19, 2014 at Sanford off Collins in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 3:00-9:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Minnie was born on June 1, 1924 to Peter and Kathrine (Pfaff) Eckroth in Fallon, ND. She married Joseph A. Schlinger on January 25, 1944 in Fallon, ND.
Minnie and Joe made their home 4 miles SE of St. Anthony, ND and when Joe died in 1963 it left Minnie with10 children. Minnie was a hard worker and a kind and gentle woman. Her faith was important to her and carried her through the hard times. In 1971 she moved to Mandan and began working at the Seven Seas Hotel in the housekeeping department she worked there until her retirement in 1989. Even after her retirement she stayed very active, spending time with her friends and family, quilting and socializing. Minnie had 2 pets she loved dearly her dog, Pebbles and her bird Buster, who she taught to speak a few words. Minnie’s family was central in her life and her grandchildren lovingly called her Willie. Her faithfulness and love for husband was always there and she looked forward to the day when she and Joe would be reunited.
Minnie will be deeply missed by daughters, Kathleen (Rick) Eckroth, Mandan, ND, Charmaine (Kevin) Schroeder, Bismarck, ND and Linda Hilbers, Bismarck, ND; sons, Gerald (Charmain), Mandan, ND, Ronald (Jackie), Mandan, ND, David (Elaine), Mandan, ND, Roger (Charlene), Mandan, ND, Donald (Sherri Jensen), Omaha, NE and Joe (Char Binstock), Mandan, ND; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; daughter-in-law, Bernie Warhurst; sisters, Rosie Eckroth, Minneapolis, MN and Isabelle Frank, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Joseph (Katherine) Eckroth, Mandan, ND and Thomas (Sharon) Eckroth, McPherson , KS.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph who died in 1963; son, Harold; sisters, Ida (Joe) Leingang and Barbara (George) Bohl; brother, George (Monica) Eckroth; brother-in-law, Leo Frank and 2 infant brothers and 2 grandchildren, Harlen and Todd Schlinger.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Sanford off Collins and the Central Dakota Humane Society.
