Verna Lund

Verna Lund, 87, passed away January 13, 2024 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Facility on Washington in Bismarck.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 10th at the Standing Rock Assembly of God Church in Selfridge, ND with Pastor Randy Hahne officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, February 9th at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.  A prayer service will begin at 8:00 PM.

Verna was born July 6, 1936 to John & Zelma (Selig) Krausch in Valley City, ND.  She grew up on the family farm and attended a rural school.  She was a graduate of Valley City High School and Valley City State University receiving a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education.

Verna began teaching at age 20.  While teaching in McLaughlin, SD she met her husband Robert Lund at the Assembly of God Church in Selfridge, ND.  They were united in marriage on June 14, 1964 in Valley City.  Together they made their home on a ranch farm near Selfridge.  Verna & Robert were foster parents for the Sioux Tribe for 15 years, fostering 55 children over that time period.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lester & Rhonda Lund of Bismarck;  3 grandchildren, Robert, Kameron, and Carter;  Many foster children and grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Krausch of Redmond, WA; and one brother, Dallas (Carolyn) Krausch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers (Wally & Kermit Krausch), and 3 foster sons (Merle Red Bear, Elroy LeBeau, and Chico Red Legs).
