Tamara Garner, 70, of Max, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 8 at 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher presiding. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 7 from 5-7 PM with a Rosary and Parish Vigil at 7 PM at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.
Tammy was born on September 2, 1952, in Colorado Springs, CO to Arnold and Donna (Bauer) Osadchy. Tammy graduated from Minot High School and went on to attend Minot State College. She married David Garner June 19, 1971 and then relocated to Crescent City, Ill to start their dairy farm dream. Three kids soon followed, Christine, Doreen and Shawn. Her life in Illinois centered around crafting dolls, rabbits, and sewing services of all kinds while ferrying her kids to 4-H, church, and school activities. She humbly complied with all requests and worked many odd jobs over the years, from working at the local newspaper to her niche of working with disabled children at the ARC of Iroquois County. She visited with the numerous grandparents as well all the while photographing every moment for us to find and cherish later.
In 1998, they moved to her grandparent’s farm, which last had residents in the 60’s. The renovation to make it their home continued for the next 20 years. It was here they were led into devoting their time to the foster child program for 16 years through multiple agencies. Dave and Tammy adopted two more children, Dovine and Heather.
She helped introduce their many foster children to farm family life, and shared her love of children with all starting with her own family and extending to her community via 4-H. She was a great resource to many-“the home ec hotline” friends called for advice. She will be sorely missed as she could do everything needed in a home. She had an exceptional green thumb for both indoor and outdoor plants. She knew how to accomplish anything around the home from sewing clothing to home repair due to her varied experiences.
Once her husband David passed, she focused on her home in Max, filling her days with her gardening, sewing, and mending. She adored sitting outside, watching nature that they had shaped with their changes to the farm. She also enjoyed the many trips to Bismarck with the West River Transit ladies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Donna Osadchy, and her grandchild, Zara. She is survived by her 5 children, Christine (Mike Sandland), Doreen Hinsz, Shawn (Ashley, nee Fuchs) Garner, Dovine Garner, and Heather Garner. She is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, Michael, Chloe, Benjamin, Sage, Andrew, Maureen, Evelyn, Jackson, Emery, and Hudson.
