Steven Bachmeier, Sr., 90, Mandan, died April 22, 2016 at Missouri Slope Continuing Care Center in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Steven was born on December 26, 1925 to Bernard and Philemonia (Bosch) Bachmeier in Emmons County, ND. He was raised and educated in that area. He entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Steven was honorable discharged after being wounded and receiving a Purple Heart. He married Shirley Jahner, she died in 1961. In 1963 he married Hildegard Schmidt.
Steven worked as an Auto Body Technician in Tacoma, Washington for 40 years, retiring in 1989. They moved to Mandan in 2007. Steven loved to travel and did so to many places. He enjoyed camping trips with his family. He was a very outgoing person who loved to socialize. He would attend many Polka dances and was a member of 3 Polka Clubs; he was also a member of the Eagles Club enjoying many Eagles Bowling Tournaments. Steven also liked to garden and make bird feeders to feed all the birds that came into his yard. He would enjoy fixing up cars and selling them to his daughters.
Steven will be deeply missed by his wife, Hildegard, Mandan, ND; sons, Steven W. Bachmeier, Gig Harbor, WA and David (Lori) Yantzer, Puyallup, WA; daughters, Debra Staley, Hamilton, MT, Shelly Holderman, Anaconda, MT, Doris (Randy) Hominda, Yelm, WA, Darcia (Mike) Santapola, Edmonds, WA, Darla (Wade) Hanson, Tacoma, WA and Lynda Spencer, Olympia, WA; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; his 1st wife, Shirley (Jahner) Bachmeier who died in 1961; daughter, Diane Yantzer; son-in-law, Roger Staley; sisters, Frances (Bill) Shmorhun, Theresa (Jack) Harper, Phyllis Perman and Rose (Eugene) Grinsteiner; brothers, Gene (Delores) and Leo.
