Stanley R. Benkendorf, 71, Bismarck, died February 12, 2016 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Larry Giese officiating. Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Bismarck AMVETS #9.
A Prayer service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church followed by visitation until 11:30 am.
Stanley was born on September 14, 1944 to Emanuel and Martha (Schilling) Benkendorf in Emmons County. He was a member of the United States Army National Guard and honorably served from1963-1969 and 1972-1975. Stanley married Lavina Krueger-Raile on September 3, 1983 in Wishek, ND. They farmed and ranched in the Wishek area. Stanley also drove the school bus for many years, he enjoyed being around all the kids. Stanley was a humble, hard-working and caring individual; he would help anyone in need without a second thought. He was quiet and calm and never spoke an angry word. His family was his pride and joy and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stanley loved western movies, especially the ones with John Wayne, he also enjoyed woodworking, tinkering with farm equipment and collecting toy tractors. He and Lavina would camp throughout North Dakota in their 5th wheel camper; he liked to be outside in nature.
Stanley will be deeply missed by his wife, Lavina, Bismarck; daughters, Renae (Bilicki) Gall, Bismarck, Lila (Jack) Mears, Mandan, Diann (Scott) Rudolf, Larimore, ND and Carol (Scott) Markovic, Bismarck; 8 grandchildren, Berrett, Christopher, Amy, Brice, Jonathan, Ashlee, Callie and Morgan and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Weber, Wishek, ND, Wilma Gross, Wishek, ND and Terry (Chuck) Schauer, Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Ray (Rachel) Benkendorf, Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, LouAllen (Gertie) Krueger, Lehr, ND; special aunt, Christine Ottmar, Springfield, Mo., special cousin that was like a brother to him, Duane Ottmar, Springfield, Mo. along with 17 nieces and nephews.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Stella and brother-in-law, Andy Gross.
