Sophia Aweis

Sophia Nureini Aweis, lovingly known as "Soph Soph," passed away on February 8, 2025, at her home. 

A funeral service for Sophia will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan, followed by burial at St. James Cemetery in Cannon Ball. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Born on October 18, 2024, at 7:16 p.m., she weighed 7 lbs 10 oz at the time of her birth to proud parents Carrie Blacklance and Nureini Aweis. 

Though her time with us was brief, Sophia brought immense joy to her family and loved ones. She was a sweet and curious little soul who enjoyed her milestones, especially as she learned to communicate through cooing. Sophia had a special fondness for the characters of Moana, Finding Nemo, and The Powerpuff Girls-her bright eyes lighting up with each of their on-screen adventures.

Sophia is survived by her loving parents, maternal grandmother, Venita Abeyta, and paternal grandmother, Fowzia Adde, along with many more grandmas, grandpas, aunties, uncles, and cousins who will cherish her memory forever. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Allison Blacklance and Marshall Blacklance.

Though her time was short, Sophia's memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
