Shirley Massee

July 4, 1927 — January 12, 2016

Shirley L. Massee, 88, Bismarck, died January 12, 2016 at Sanford Continuing Care Center off Sunset in Mandan with her loving family by her side.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND with Rev. Darrell Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Linton City Cemetery, Linton, North Dakota at 2:30 pm.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at Weigel Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Shirley was born on July 4, 1927 to William and Amanda (Mauer) Steele in Carrington, ND. She graduated from Gwinner High School. Shirley went to work for a Canery in Seattle, Washington during WWII. While on a train from Washington to North Dakota she met George Massee who was on leave from the United States Navy. He became her husband on July 4, 1946 in Lisbon, ND. They settled in Linton, ND after they raised their family. George passed away in 1992.

Shirley was a loving and caring wife and mother, there was always a home cooked meal waiting for her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, tending her flower gardens, which were always beautiful and sewing having belonged to a quilting group in Linton for many years. Shirley was also a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Linton and the Church’s Lady’s Aide Group. Above all her family was the most important thing in her life. She would put them before herself always. She will be truly loved and missed by all who knew her.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, Lynda (Andy) Anderson, Lake Havasu, AZ, Gail Vanderplaats, Milaca, MN, Claude (Karen) Massee, Rapid City, SD, Mike (Paula) Massee, Mandan, ND and Jerry (Michele) Massee, Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren, Aden (Sherry) Anderson, Darrel (Emily) Anderson, Tanner (Tanya) Schmidt, Logan Massee, Tanner Massee (Jetaime), Kaley Massee, Luke Massee, Peter Zeigler, Judd (Tracie) Zeigler, Paige Massee and Jacob Massee; 12 great-grandchildren, Megan Anderson, Jamie Anderson, Levi Anderson, Liz Anderson, Braeden Schmidt, Jade Schmidt, Isaak Massee, Devin Zeigler, Elijah Zeigler, Nolan Zeigler, Nyssa Zeigler and Leah Zeigler along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; 2 sisters, 3 brothers and son-in-law, Don Vanderplaats.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Peace Lutheran Church, Linton, ND.
