Russell was born January 25, 1967 to Richard and Mary (Fleck) Bendish. He attended grade school in Fort Rice and completed the 4th and 5th grade in the same year. He then went on and graduated from Mandan High School in 1984. After high school Russell went to Wahpeton and IBC for college. Russell worked on the farm for his uncle Arnold Bendish and also his cousin Dale Rebenitsch. He was employed by Onyx Construction, Schoonover Brothers, Mandan Public Schools, and most recently RDO Equipment Company for the past 16 years.

Russell married the love of his life, Debra Schwartzbauer on April 19, 1991 in Mandan, ND. Together they had three wonderful children. Russell loved attending his children’s sporting events along with taking them hunting, fishing, and camping. They were the light of his life and most all of his conversations revolved around his kids. Russell had a strong faith and during his illness his faith became stronger and carried him through this difficult time.

Russell had a passion for the outdoors passed on to him from his father. He shared that love with his children taking them hunting and fishing whenever he could. He also loved camping with family and friends. Many memories were created on countless camping trips. There weren’t many times Russell could be seen without a gun, fishing rod, or just having a good time. He had a love for life and was an honest and respected man. Russell was never afraid to say it like it was. You knew where you stood with Russell. He had many unique sayings.
