Robert “Bob” Francis Coyle, 72, Breien, ND died May 31, 2014 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Basil Atwell, OSB as celebrant & Brother George Maufort, SDS as Deacon. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 1:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Bob was born on February 19, 1942 to Robert F. Sr. & Anna (Wingerter) Coyle in Dubuque, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the Selfridge area and graduated from Fort Yates High School. He entered the United States Army after graduation and obtained a rank of sergeant after nine years of service. During this time, Bob married Lillian Tishmack on November 22, 1962 in McIntosh, SD where they started their family. Five years later they moved to Washington State where Bob was employed with Boeing. He also worked as a chef in Seattle and Westport. Upon returning to North Dakota in 1978, he bought a home in Breien and began establishing his hobby farm.
Bob was an industrious man and had many talents and interests. He was a farmer/rancher, business owner including gas stations, grocery stores, bars, and restaurants, truck and bus driver and cook just to name a few. He especially enjoyed the sport of boxing, which he coached and judged. He was very proud of starting the boxing team at both Mandan and Solen. He enjoyed cattle and liked going to the sale barn and attending farm auctions. Bob was an avid reader of Native American culture, US history, religion, and politics. He enjoyed watching old westerns. He was light on his feet, a good dancer. Bob’s favorite pastime was visiting with friends and neighbors. He loved his grandchildren and always gave them advice whether they asked for it or not.
Bob will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Lillian; Breien, ND; daughters, Shanon (Mark) Lindberg, Moorhead, MN and Sherie (Raphael) Leingang, Gillette, WY; son Travis (JoAnn) Coyle, Mandan, ND; 9 grandchildren, Zac Leingang, Jessica Leingang, Breiana Leingang, Nick Lindberg, Mike Lindberg, Annie Lindberg, Brandon Coyle, Tanner Coyle, and Devin Coyle; and 1 great-grandchild, Scarlet Leigh Leingang; mother, Anna Marie Coyle; sisters, Rose Mann, Bismarck, ND, Sandy (Butch) Hepper, Anchorage, AK, Judene (Kurt) Maxon, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Bill (Connie) Coyle, Sacramento, CA and George (Vicky) Coyle, Buffalo, SD; brothers-in-law, Herb Saunders, Milwaukee, WI and Joe Warner, McLaughlin, SD.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert, Sr.; sisters, Debbie Saunders and Beverly Warner.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials go to www.Bike2Believe.org in honor of cancer awareness and research. This current event has a participant, grandson, Devin Coyle, who’s making the 2500 mile bicycle ride from Bismarck to St. Petersburg, FL as a fund raiser.
A luncheon will follow the burial services at the commissary at Fort Lincoln State Park located just south of the Veterans Cemetery. Please inform the attendant at the park entrance that you are associated with Bob Coyle’s funeral to avoid park fees.
