Robert Burns

Robert Leo Burns, 69, Mandan, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan with Fr. Josh Waltz celebrating. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. 

Robert was born July 21, 1955, in Cheyenne, WY to Richard and Leota (Jochim) Burns. He grew up north of Mandan and attended St. Joseph Catholic School and later graduated from Mandan High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Dakota. Robert worked for Power Generation Service until his retirement.

On October 18, 2003, Robert married the love of his life, Cheryl Glatt, on his ranch north of Mandan where the couple made their home. Robert loved his hobby ranch and spent most of his time outdoors. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and the family cabin at Lake Isabel where many memories were made with his family and friends. His approach to life was work hard and play hard. His positive attitude and warm heart impacted all of those he met. He will be deeply missed by so many lives that he touched. 

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; father-in-law, Bill Glatt and his special friend, Betty Aberle; sisters-in-law, Loree (Russ) Becker, Judy Mae Burns, and Judy Schlosser Burns; brother-in-law, Michael Massey; along with many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his sons, Robert Jr. and Rylee; his parents, Richard and Leota; siblings, Ron, Linda, Rebecca, Rick, Sheryl, and Rory; mother-in-law, Adeline Glatt; and nephews, Ryan and RJ Burns.
