Richard A. Stein, 79, Mandan, passed away October 13, 2016 in Bismarck.
Richard was born on March 3, 1937 to John and Rose (Zander) Stein in Mandan. He was raised on the family farm and went to school in the Crown Butte area. His family moved to Mandan when Richard was 17 years old. It was there that Richard met and married the love of his life, Helen Berger, on October 1, 1958 and they raised five children. He worked nearly 40 years at Dakota Flooring after which he decided to start his own business, Stein Flooring, so he could spend more time at home with family. He ran his business until he retired in 2004.
Richard enjoyed playing cards especially Pinochle, with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. He also enjoyed traveling and has been to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and many other places. Country western music was a favorite of his and he loved to dance to a good waltz or polka. Richard's favorite team was the Minnesota Twins. He spent many hours cheering for them and made several trips to Minneapolis to watch them. Richard was also a member of the Mandan Moose and Mandan Eagles.
Richard will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years Helen; their children, Marlyn (Patti), Billings, MT, Marlys (Keith) Landeis, Mandan, ND, Melinda (Gary) Haugen, Mandan, ND, Monte (Heidi), Bismarck, ND, and Mike (Delta), Castle Pines, CO; 10 grandchildren, Kara (Jesse) Parker, Kelly and Rachel Ruggles, Brett Landeis, Lisa (Jesse) Hahn, Dan (Amy) Haugen, Andy Haugen, Jordan and Taylor Stein, and Merrick Stein; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette (Ruben) Straub, Bismarck, ND; brother, Jim, San Diego, CA; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Katie Berger, Bill and Beatrice Berger, Clemens and Annie Fleck, Cecilia Geiger, Regina Monaco, Agnes Vetter, Leonard and Alberta Berger, and Ray and Diane Berger, and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Al, Ervin (Eleanore), Clara (Jack) Miller, and infant sister Norleen; his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Rose (Emter) Berger; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Matt Berger, Tillie Schmidt, Lucas Fleck, Jerome Geiger, Joe Monaco, and Joe Vetter.
