Richard E. Maier, 87, Bismarck, died June 15., 2014 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 20, 2014 at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Dave Swonger officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. With Military Honors provided by the Bismarck VFW Post #1326.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Richard was born on December 16, 1926 to Phillip and Lydia (Klein) Maier in Mott, ND.
He was raised and educated in the Mott area. Richard entered the military June of 1945 and served until January of 1946. He married Doris Langshaw on July 28, 1950 in Bismarck.
Richard worked for Capital Electric Cooperative started as a Lineman and at his retirement in 1989 he was a supervisor. He was a reserved man that put his family above all else. He enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays and special occasions. He also enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables which he would generously share with everyone. Richard liked playing pinochle, woodworking and in his earlier years camping and fishing.
Richard will be deeply missed by his daughters, Mary Jane Maier, Donna (Chris) Frey, Deborah Koch, Phyllis Lilly, Janet (Brian) Wallace, Patricia (Brett) Behm all of Bismarck; son Phillip of Colorado Springs, CO; 14 grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Leona (Leo) Baesler, New Leipzig, ND and Alvina Kautz, New Leipzig, ND; brothers, John Maier, New Leipzig, ND; sister-in-law, Diane Maier, Mott, ND.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; son-in-law Frank Koch; sisters, Alma Bierwagon, Martha Wolf, Hilda Golke and Lydia Luithle and brother, Alvin Maier.
