Richard Hopfauf

Richard J. Hopfauf, 79, Wilton, ND died June 4, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wilton, ND with Rev. Frank Schuster as celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral service on Monday. Inurnment will be at Mandan Union Cemetery on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10:00 am.

Richard was born on December 8, 1935 to John and Wilhelmina (Hellman) Hopfauf at home near Fallon, ND. He attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic Parochial School in Fallon, ND and later St. Joseph Catholic Parochial School in Mandan, ND. Richard attended Mandan High School for 2 years. He farmed with his brother, Joe for many years before moving to Redwood Village, Wilton, ND in 1991 and where he resided at the time of his death.

Richard will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity and gratitude. He took is dining room clean-up chores and walking yeller at Redwood Village very seriously and took pride in doing them well. His “job” of sending rosaries, medal and handmade crafts to relatives and friends along with is “tiny” letters to say hello will be something that will always be remembered by his friends and family. Richard enjoyed his special “rock collection”, riding his 3 wheel bike and going on outings along with his many trip to Cenex for pop and blueberry muffins.


Richard will be deeply missed by his sister, Hilda Klos, San Diego, CA and sister-in-law, Dianne Hopfauf, Bismarck, ND and in God’s perfect timing Richard met the love of his life, Verla Ebel at Redwood Village later life. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Helbling, Ann Frank, Veronica Hopfauf and Josephine Stein; brothers, Jack (Marge) Hopfauf, Ralph Hopfauf and Joe Hopfauf.
