Richard C. Engwicht, 86, Judson, ND, passed away November 29, 2016 at his daughter's residence in Menoken surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Jonathan Walla officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Salem with Military Honors provided by the New Salem American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, December 2, 2015 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Richard was born on October 24, 1930 to Richard and Barbara (Metzger) Engwicht in Dunn County, ND. Richard was born during a snow storm, married during a snow storm and died during a snow storm. He was raised and educated in Dunn County. Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1961 earning the rank of Corporal. Richard married Louann Frei on November 28, 1957 in Halliday, ND. Louann died on April 22, 2011.
He farmed and ranched in Richardton on the family farm, farming throughout his lifetime, he moved to Judson, ND in 1969. Richard was a truck driver for 37 years with various employers. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during holidays; making homemade ice cream and playing cards. He also loved to garden and would can the fruits of his labor. Richard had a talent for tying knots as a prank. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing especially taking is grandchildren with him. Family was central in Richard's life and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Richard will be deeply missed by his daughters, Barbara Zins Burrer and her husband, Byron Burrer, Menoken, ND, Elizabeth (Wesley) Cook, Stewartville, MN, Rebecca (Dean) Simonsen, Sleepy Eye, MN and; sons, Richard (Shelia), Oakes, ND, Mark (Laura), Bismarck, ND, Michael (Connie), Brooking, SD and John Paul (Michelle), Judson, ND; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma (Vernon) Voegele, Mandan, ND and Clara Travis, Modesto, CA along with loved ones.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louann; sisters, Marcella Manning and Noreen Engwicht; brothers, Clarence and Henry; parents-in-law, Philip and Anna Frei along with other loved ones.
