Rachel K. Wald, 71, Woodworth, ND, died October 28, 2015 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck after a long battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Christopher Kadrmas as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 2, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Rachel was born on December 29, 1943 in the family home in Strasburg, ND to Mathias W. and Anne (Sahli) Lipp. She was raised and educated in the Strasburg area, graduating from Strasburg Public High School. She married Anthony J. Wald on August 28, 1961 and they lived first in Linton before moving to the Bismarck/Mandan area where they raised their two boys. In 1989 she and Tony moved to Woodworth, ND and took over the local bar “Stubs Pub”. Tony died in September of 1991 and Rachel continued to own and operate the bar until her retirement in September of 2009.
Rachel enjoyed a variety of hobbies including crocheting, bird watching, reading and building her library of over 3500 books. She was an avid collector of Terry Redlin items and Bradford plates. She also truly enjoyed gardening and canning and sharing her garden goodies with family and friends. During her time in Woodworth she was a supporter of Ducks Unlimited and most recently enjoyed spending time with the Ladies from the Red Hat Society.
Rachel will be deeply missed by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall (LaDonna) Wald, Mandan, ND and their children, Christopher and Colton Wald and Russell (LaNita) Wald, Bismarck, ND; sisters, Carol (Ronald) Kramer, Strasburg, ND, Delores (Herbert) Soule, Auburn, WA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Agnes Wald, Linton, ND, Steve (Isabelle) Zacher, West Bend WI and Bill (Mary Jane) Pahl, Marshfield, WI along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony; brothers, Robert (Dolores) Lipp, David Lipp and Harold Lipp and sister, Dorothy (Leo) Feist; brother-in-law, Benny Wald and brother- in-law & sister-in-law, Peter and Maggie Bosch.
