Peter Schmidt

Peter T. Schmidt, 75 of Hot Springs, SD, formerly of Mandan, passed away on October 17, 2021, at the South Dakota Veteran’s Home in Hot Springs.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 22, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mandan followed by burial at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21 from 5-6 pm with a Rosary/Parish Vigil beginning at 6 pm at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Peter was born March 24, 1946, in Mandan to Peter A. and Ida B. (Friesz) Schmidt. He graduated from Mandan High School and went on to Bismarck State College. In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until July of 1971 when he was honorably discharged.

Peter worked at various places throughout his life. He enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, dancing and especially visiting with friends and family.

He is survived by his brothers: Gary (Wanda), Ken (Sherry) and Paul Schmidt and Doris along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Pat Hatzenbuhler and Janice Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery.
