Peter J. Berger, 89, Mandan, died December 31, 2013 at Sanford Health in Bismarck surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Moose Ritual at 4:30 pm, Knights of Columbus and a Christian Mothers Rosary at 5:00 pm and Parish Vigil at 5:15 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Pete was born on June 7, 1924 to John and Frances (Beehler) Berger in Fallon, North Dakota. Pete and his family moved to a farm north of Fort Yates when he was 7 years old and attended country school in Sioux County. He married Ann Braun on October 25, 1949 in Selfridge. Pete and Anna moved to their farm north of Solen in 1954 where they raised their 7 children. They lived on the farm until their retirement in 1993 and then moved to Mandan.
Pete was a farmer all his life. He was proud of his years of involvement with the Mandan Rural Fire Department. After his retirement, Pete, loved to go to Yakima, WA to visit his brothers and sisters. He particularly enjoyed driving in the mountains. Many winters found Pete and Ann enjoying the weather in Phoenix, AZ.
Pete will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years Ann; daughters, Denise (Mike) Bossert, Bismarck and Jolene (Jimmie) Clark, Round Mountain, NV; sons, Duane (Pam), Mandan, Keith (Diane), Bismarck, Jerome (Brenda), Billings, MT, Darold (Wanda), Burlington and Randy (Patty), Mandan; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Josephine (Don) Ripplinger, Mandan and Angeline Ternes, Milton WA; sister-in-law, Hilda Berger, Rapid City, SD and brother-in-law, George Kuchynski, Bismarck.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Dana; sisters, Agatha (Joe) Leingang, Hilda Kuchynski, Barbara (Phillip) Leingang and Veronica (Adam) Barnhard; brothers, Marcus (Regina), Adam (Jean), Florian (Regina), Bill and Edward (Betty) Berger and brother-in-law, Emil Ternes.
