Paul was born on March 5, 1963 to Richard and Ann (Miller) Leingang of Mandan, ND. He was raised and educated in Mandan and attended Mandan High School. Paul was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Kelly (Anheluk) on September 6, 1985. They were blessed with 2 children, Kyle and Kayla. Paul was a dedicated member of his community, and spent 30 years volunteering as a basketball coach, and still counts all of those kids and their families as his friends. Paul spent many hours with his children watching his favorite teams the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Paul was a kind and humble person, and his caring nature embodied the definition of the perfect Police Officer. Paul began his law enforcement career on June 30, 1980; and he completed his 37th year June 30, 2017, at the Mandan Police Department. He started when he was 17 years old working in Support Services by washing cars, doing animal control, etc. At the age of 19, Paul became a police officer and worked in the Patrol Division. In 1986 he became a Detective, and after a few years he became the first full time drug investigator for the City of Mandan. Paul then became an original member of the first drug task force ever formed in the State of North Dakota. In 2005 Paul graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; a prestigious executive level training program in which less than 2% of police officers across the country ever get a chance to attend. In 1997 he became the supervisor for the Metro Area Narcotics Task Force. In 1999 Paul obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Management at the University of Mary. In 2007 Paul was promoted to Deputy Chief for the Department.
Being a deeply religious man, Paul’s faith never waivered as he fought his 6 month battle with cancer.
Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife of almost 32 years, Kelly; son, Kyle Leingang, Fargo, ND and daughter, Kayla Leingang (special friend, Kevin Kraft), Mandan, ND; mother, Ann Leingang, Mandan, ND; sisters, Mary (Curt) Simons, Baldwin, ND, Alice (Lenus) Berger, Mandan, ND and Arlene (Tim) Oster, Grand Forks, ND; brothers, James R.
