Oscar was born on April 8, 1935 to Albert and Mary (Hoff) Kroll in Napoleon, ND. He was raised and educated in the Napoleon area. Oscar served proudly in the United States Army and National Guard. He married Dorothy Geist on January 15, 1960 and they made their home and raised their family in Bismarck. Oscar worked for Jensen Furniture as an upholsterer before owning and operating his own floor covering installing business for 25 years. Oscar was a talented man and could fix just about anything. He was a kind-hearted and gentle man with a wicked sense of humor. He loved playing cards with friends and family and was well known as a notorious card cheat. Gardening and flowers were his great passion and he spent many hours planting and weeding his garden and flowerbeds. He enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales and would often come home with a box of treasures (at least to him!) to store in a garage already full of yard sale treasures. He and Dorothy spent the winter in Mesa, AZ to escape the cold and spend time with his grandchildren; Oscar never met a stranger and would enjoy visiting and getting to know people. He also enjoyed camping and spending time traveling especially in the Western United States. Above all his family was central in his life; his children and grandchildren were very important to him and they will remember and love him always.
Oscar will be deeply missed by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; daughters, Sarah (Marlin) Entze and Tonia (Kyle) Swanson, Phoenix, AZ; son Bryan (partner, Richard Moyer), San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Kiera and Alex Swanson and step-granddaughter, Alicia (Matt) Watkins; sisters, Frances Horan, Seattle, WA and Betty (Mal) Lowman, Pahrump, NV; brothers, Marvin Kroll, Napoleon, ND, Ervin (Kathy) Kroll, San Bernadino, CA and Eugene (Yvonne) Kroll, Loveland, CO and brother-in-law, Raymond Oberlander, Medina, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Oscar was preceded in death by sisters, Delores Oberlander and Alice (Ray) Chio; brothers, Alvin (Mary Ethel), Walter (Ella), Wilbert (Viola), Raymond (Hilda) and Gilbert (Dorothy); sister-in-law, Irene Kroll and brother-in-law, Russ Horan.
