Nancy Klein

April 23, 1958 — August 8, 2015

Nancy A. Klein, 57, M.T. Pockets Ranch, passed away August 8, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Nancy was born on April 23, 1958 to Celes and Eva (Betty) (Leingang) Volk in Mandan, ND. She was raised and educated in Mandan, ND. After high school Nancy worked as a CNA at a local nursing home. She then went on to be an Aide in the special education room at Roosevelt Elementary. She loved all the children as if they were her own, taking many home on the weekends for sleepovers. After many years, she became a Para Educator at the Mandan High School, where she proudly served out her 28 years working for the Mandan Public Schools. She made many special bonds not only with the kids she helped job coach but also the various businesses she took them to. It seemed no matter where she went; Nancy received a hug from an old student or coworker.

Nancy married Marvin Klein on October 27, 1984 in Mandan. Together they raised their two children. Brittany and Cobey. Nancy was a great cook whose famous dishes; pea and cheese salad, stew and delicious apple bars will never be recreated. She shared her fondness for baking with her granddaughter Sydney. As Sundays were reserved for “grandma and Sydney” baking day.

Nancy loved living on the farm and raising her livestock, especially her sheep. She loved taking care of her bottle lambs, often bringing them to school to show the kids.

Nancy and Marvin Cherished special trips over many years to rodeo clown reunions to see their “rodeo family”. She recently had a great time on a trip to Colorado with a jeep ride through the Garden of the Gods. Nancy had an incredible personality and a special way with words, which she shared in her beautiful poetry. She loved singing songs to her children, nieces, nephews and then later with her grandchildren. Nancy was a great dancer; she and Marvin were always the center of attention on the dance floor. She loved making crafts and was especially known for her handmade Christmas cards. She was the life of the party always entertaining with her quick wit and humor, even known to break out her accordion for special occasions. Nancy had a magnetic personality which constantly made long lasting friendships. Her loving spirit and generosity will live on in our hearts forever.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her husband, Marvin Klein; daughter, Brittany (Fiancé, Derek Burns) Klein, Mandan; son, Cobey (Anne) Klein, M.T. Pockets Ranch, ND; sisters, Elaine Volk, Mandan, Janice (Gary) Freeman, Mandan, Pearl Larsen, Mandan; brothers, Jim (Diana) Volk, Sheridan, WY, Monte (Tina) Volk, Mandan; grandchildren, Sydney and Kelsey; mother-in-law, Lily Klein, Spearfish, SD; brothers-in-law, Ray (Joan) Klein, Belle Fourche, SD, Steve Klein, Coon Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Mary Kay Budmayr, Belle Fourche, SD as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Bobby Larsen; father –in-law, Andy Klein and niece, Betty Jo Volk.

In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mandan Parks and Recreation, 2600 46th Ave SE, Mandan, ND 58554, in Nancy’s name. A bench will be dedicated to her at the handicapped-accessible Universal Playground, being built in Mandan.
