Monsadius "M.J." Hatzenbihler, 90, Bismarck, formerly of Center, ND, passed away June 5, 2017, at Augusta Place in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, June 9, 2017, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, ND, with Rev. John Guthrie as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40 on Friday at 12 pm.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 4-8 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

M.J. was born on June 17, 1926, to John and Barbara (Barnhardt) Hatzenbihler in Oliver County, ND. M.J. was drafted in the United States Army in November 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He married Cecelia Hoffman on June 15, 1948, in Center, ND. To this marriage 11 children were born. M.J. loved dancing, picking juneberries, gardening, camping, and fishing with his wife of 60 years. He retired from farming and ranching at 55 and moved to Center, ND, where they owned and operated the Corner Stop.

M.J. had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children. His family was central in his life, along with his strong Catholic faith. He was warm and enjoyed visiting with people and loved to play cards, go fishing, hunting, and making sausage with his friends and family. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing, skiing, coaching baseball, and golfing. He was patient, kind, and loved giving hugs. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed spending time with them.

M.J. will be deeply missed by his daughters, Jill (Steve) Bosch, Strasburg, ND, Arliss (Joseph) Mahrer, Garibaldi, OR, Gail (Jim) Morton, Edson, Alberta, Canada, Denise (Jim) Brorby, Beulah, ND, and Raylene (Ernie) Vettel, Caledonia, ND; sons, Neal (Linda), Pinehaven, WY, Dean (Crystal), Salem, OR, Kevin (Kimberly) Gillette, WY, and Brian (Leia), Alvord, TX; daughter-in-law, Trudy Hatzenbihler, Billings, MT; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Haag, Center, ND; brother, Ralph (Louise), Mandan, ND; sisters-in-law, Barbara Hatzenbihler, Frances Kary, and Beverly Moon, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

M.J. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cecelia; sons, Scott and infant son, Keith; sisters, Mary (Martin) Emineth, Beata (John) Haag, and Rose (Bill) Jahner; brothers, Jack (Magdlyn), Matt (Adeline), John, Pete (Betty), and Frank (Darlene); brother-in-law Jake Haag, George Kary; sisters-in-law, Viola (Mike) Himmelspach, and Jeanette (Myron) Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or the Golden Age Club in Center.
