Minnie was born on April 20, 1921 in the farming community of St. Vincent, just west of Mandan. She was the seventh child born of ten children to Aloise and Mathilda (Kary) Gratz. Minnie attended country grade school at St. Vincent's and graduated from Mandan High School and continued her education by attending beautician school to become a hairdresser. She met Frank, Schiff at a city dance hall where Frank played violin in the band. They were married October 21, 1940, together they operated a barber/beauty shop for many years in Mandan.
The family enjoyed boating on the Missouri River on Sunday afternoons after church. Even though Minnie could not swim, she would go water skiing. As grandchildren were added to the family, they continued to get together with the family members for outdoor activities at Dale and Margie's cabin at Lake Sakakawea. She was always ready to go fishing with Glenn and Sandi and was very competitive at it. Frank and Minnie also enjoyed traveling with Gary when he worked for the airlines in Denver; which made it possible for them to fly to many areas in the United States.
Minnie really enjoyed going to casinos and would go along with her family or sisters or any friends that were heading out. Her daughter Shirley and her husband, Marvin Haug, kept Minnie entertained as she grew older and started slowing down (but not very slow).
Minnie will be deeply missed by her sons, Dale (Margie), Bismarck, ND, Glen (Sandi), Seward, AK and Gary, Texas; son-in-law, Marvin Haug, Bismarck; grandchildren, Paul Schiff, Brenda (Schiff) Seehafer, Scott and Eric Haug, Derrick and Brandon Schiff, Dustin, Taylor, Jessica and Brandon Schiff; great-grandchildren, Teigan, Kadee, Brady and Julie; sisters, Ida Hatzenbuhler, Mandan, ND and Ann Stoltz, Puyallup, WA.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank who died in 1994; daughter, Shirley Haug; and infant grandson; sisters, Beatrice, Rose and Joanne; brothers, George, John, Jack and Tony.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the St. Joseph Trust Fund.
