Miles Jay Gipp, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Fort Yates, ND on February 5, 2022.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 11 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with Father John Floberg as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Miles was born on May 23, 1962, in Bismarck, ND to Francis and Elaine (Two Bears) Gipp. He attended Standing Rock High School where he rode bulls and would often follow a 7-circuit rodeo for high school rodeo. After graduating high school in 1980, Miles went on to attend Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute earning his Associates of Applied Science degree.
He worked for a brief time with Bureau of Indian Affairs as a firefighter. He also worked for SRST/MR&I for several years.
Some of Miles’s favorite hobbies were spending time with his family, watching boxing and basketball on TV, and helping with family brandings. He was an amazing grandpa who loved his grandchildren dearly and would often make the drive to Aberdeen, SD to visit them.
Miles is survived by his two children, Kyle (Jamie) Gipp of Shawnee, OK, and Tarah Martin of Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Gerald (Carol) Gipp of Virginia and Robert (Lana) Gipp of Fort Yates, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Elaine Gipp; two brothers, Francis Gipp Jr. and Dr. David Gipp; and cousin, Clint “Zonk” Harrison Jr.
Following the service, the family invites you for a light lunch and fellowship at the Mandan Depot.
