Mary Wald

Mary Wald, 91, Mandan, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, under the care of hospice at Edgewood Vista in Mandan.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 24 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church in Mandan. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Sunday with a 7 PM Rosary and Vigil Service at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan.

Mary was born Feb. 26, 1932 in Center, ND to Philip & Bertha (Ternes) Berger.  She grew up to become a strong Catholic, she could be found in the front pew most Sundays and every holiday. Praying the rosary was something Mary did daily and was a regular leader of rosary prayers for anyone in need. She raised all of her 7 children in the Catholic faith and ensured they knew who their Lord and Savior was. Baptisms and weddings were a highlight for Mary and she could be seen right up in the action with a big smile on her face sharing in the joy of her faith and her family. When Mary wasn’t volunteering or attending church, she could be found at the Senior Center, the bingo hall, or her kitchen table surrounded by family and friends playing her favorites, pinochle and the money game.

She is survived by her children & grandchildren, Cindy (Loren) Ollenburger of Bismarck and their children, Tim (Ashley) Ollenburger & Tom (Allie) Ollenburger;  Dennis (Joyce) Wald of Oregon and their children, Kimberly (Heber) Betancourt & Jonathan Wald;  Jonah (Dale) Fischer of St Anthony, ND and their children, Dustin (Kira) Fischer, Jessica (Randy) Schonberger, & Sarah (Skylar) Berg; Patty (Michael) Shepherd of Killeen, TX and their children, Michelle Shepherd (Desmond), Michael Shepherd Jr (Tatyana), & Charlene Shepherd; Nicodemus Wald of Bismarck; and grandchildren (from preceded son Gary), Alvina Wald (Aaron) & Eric Wald;  17 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rose Heier, Lorraine Ressler, and Francis Gower.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Frank Wald, daughter Alvina Wald, & son Gary Wald.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, and caregivers at Edgewood Vista in Mandan, especially Sammy and Macy. The kindness, patience and love you showed our mom will never be forgotten.
