Marvin C. Way, 87, of Aitkin MN, passed away peacefully on his birthday April 2, 2025, surrounded by family and caring friends.
Marv was born April 2,1938, in Aitkin, MN to Ellis and Nellie (Bronner) Way. Marv graduated from Aitkin MN High School in 1956. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the military and served until 1974. After basic training, he started a career with the Aitkin Independent Age Newspaper as a print press operator. Marv married his first wife, Ruth Bayliss, in 1961, in his hometown. While living in their home on Cedar Lake just outside of Aitkin, they had two children: Scott & Marcy. In 1974, he met Terryl Henrickson who he later married in 1975, adding to the family four children: Tanja, Tiphane, Tracine & Jim. In 1976, they moved their family to Mandan, ND where Marv continued his career in the print industry as a journeyman printer and embosser. His work on the North Dakota Centennial Seal as well as other works earned awards. After retiring in 2000, Marv and Terry moved back to his hometown of Aitkin so he could care for his mother as well as Terry whose health was declining. Marv and Terry enjoyed 14 years of retirement before she unfortunately passed away in late 2014. In 2019, Marv decided to move back to Mandan ND to spend his remaining years living with his son and daughter-in-law, where he was taken care of until his final days.
Marv is survived by his children, Scott Way (Katie), Marcy Dikeman (Jeff), Tanja Bennett, Tiphane Downs (Keith), Tracine McFadden (Paul) and Jim Henrickson; grandchildren Dylan, Erik, Adam, Paul, Tyler, Christopher (Courtney), Kernan, Verity, Kaia and April; great-grandchildren, Nixon, Matthew, Colin, Cameron and Allard; siblings, Ardie and Dallas (Joyce); sister-in-law, Betty; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Terryl; parents, Ellis and Nellie; siblings, Jim, Rusty (Skeets) and Dean; grandchild, Nicholas; as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angie Way for praying with the family in Marv’s final moments. The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to Home Care Companions of Bismarck. Ashten, Cindy, and Renee - we can’t thank you enough for the care you showed for Marv in his final year. It was a true blessing.
Marv’s wishes were to be cremated and be buried with his late wife, Terry. A small graveside service officiated by his goddaughter, Angie Way, will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin, MN at a later date.
