Martin Morrell of Mandan, ND entered eternal rest on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the age of 85.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 29th at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan with Rev. Fred Harvey as celebrant. Martin will be laid to rest at Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan followed by a 7:00 PM Holy Rosary and Vigil Service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Martin was born on July 28, 1936 to Dominick and Magdalena (Doll) Morrell in rural Morton County.
Martin grew up on the family farm near St. Anthony, ND and lived in Mandan his adult life. His first language was German. Hard work was instilled at a very young age. At the age of 8 he was on the tractor plowing fields. For fun on the farm, he rolled tires. As a young man, he was educated at the Saint Anthony Nun Boarding School. He attended the North Dakota State School of Science where he received training as a General Mechanic. He also completed technical training as an Autobody Technician. Martin was gifted with mechanical skills which he used his entire life. He loved planting backyard gardens and producing bountiful harvests which he was always proud of and shared with his family.
Martin was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church; he was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 6186 and had achieved the status of Honorary Life Member; he was also a member of the Mandan Eagles Club 2451 and Mandan Moose Lodge 425.
Martin married Hildegarde Fleck on June 3, 1959 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Fallon, ND. They established their home in Mandan where they raised their family and shared their lives together for 60 years until Hildegarde’s death on November 21, 2019.
Martin will be deeply missed by his children Deanna Zook; Mark Morrell; Bonnie (David) Schall; Delvin (Francine) Morrell; Thirteen grandchildren: Kayla (Alex) Doll, Ashley Zook, Alicia (Kaplyn) Gorney, James Zook, Gunnar Morrell, Shelbie Morrell, Adeline Morrell, Rachel Schall, Jack Schall, Samantha (Jeffrey) Groberg, Katie (Jameson) Heid, Lynsey (Casey) Diehl, and Deserey Morrell; Nine great-grandchildren: Isaac Doll, Aiden Doll, Emelia Doll, Benjamin Zook, Owen Groberg, Skylar Heid, Jaxon Heid, Grace Diehl, and Elouise Diehl. Siblings: Josephine (Peter) Friesz, Leo (Diana) Morrell, Vivian (Eugene) Boehm, Linda (Joe) Berger, and Mary Ann Schaaf; Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Evelyn (Larry) Morrell, Cecilia Geiger, Leonard and Lenora Haider, Valentine and Doris Fleck, Melvin and Clara Beckler, Richard Fleck, Bernadette and Rick Warhurst, Melvin and Shirley Fleck, Leonard and Karen Fleck.
Martin is preceded in death by his wife Hildegarde, infant daughter Colleen, his parents; grandson Dylan Morrell; siblings: Larry, Charles, Carolyn, and Jack Morrell; father and mother-in-law Anton and Monica (Berger) Fleck; brothers-in-law: Eugene Boehm, Lucas, Anton, Jerome, Casper and Alphonse Fleck, Harold Schlinger; sisters-in-law: Sharon (Jack) Morrell, Adeline Vogel, and Magdalina Fleck.
His family would like to thank the staff at the Baptist Health Care Center for their love, friendship, and patience.
