Marie Swallow

Marie Swallow, 80, of Mandan, joined the angels on a beautiful Easter morning, April 4, 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Kreitinger as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Marie (Franck) Swallow was born May 11, 1940, in a farmhouse southwest of Strasburg, ND, to Markus and Ida (Ternes) Franck. In 1958, Marie moved to Bismarck and worked at Arrowhead Cleaners and as a waitress at Ressler’s Café. Marie married John Swallow in 1961 and together had three wonderful children, Leslie, Jeff, and Wayne whom she loved dearly. In 1969, she moved to Moorhead, MN. Marie moved back to Mandan in 1976 and went to work at Gourmet House as a Bartender/Waitress for 13 years and Medcenter One (Sanford) for 21 years.

Marie was a happy person who loved to tell jokes and be with family and friends. She loved to travel and visited Rome, Israel, and went on many bus tours within the United States. She loved playing cards, softball, golfing, and bowling. She had many trophies including a second-place trophy at Nationals in Las Vegas. In her later years, she played pool with the Old Timers League, which she really enjoyed.

Reading was a very enjoyable part of her life. She read newspapers and many books on her Kindle. She also enjoyed time on her computer, which she taught herself at the age of 65, and played cards every Sunday with friends at Liberty Heights. Marie had a strong belief in God and volunteered at Spirit of Life Catholic Church which she belonged to since 1980.

Marie will be deeply missed by her daughter, Leslie (Larry) Gross; son, Jeff (Sandy) Swallow; granddaughters, Alyson, McKenzie, and McKayla; sister, Betty Vogel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Markus and Ida Franck; her son, Wayne; two grandchildren, Krystal and Jared Swallow; sister, Alvina Bosch; brothers, Joe and Mark; nieces, Patty (Bosch) Gumke and Linda Bosch; and nephews, Frank and Steve Bosch.
