She was born September 13th, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI, to Charles and Catherine Karabensh. Her and her family moved to a homestead farm in Sweet Briar, ND. She attended a country school through eighth grade. Marian was a hard worker on the farm. She did many chores with her siblings and shared many stories and memories of life on the farm. She attended the 4-H club, which is where she met the love of her life, Arthur Zueger.
She was chosen Dairy Princess in Mandan when she was 19 years old. Prior to getting married, she moved from the farm to Mandan, where she rented a room in the building which is now currently Weigel's Funeral Home, and worked at the phone company. On May 7th, 1953, at St. Joseph's church in Mandan, Arthur and Marian were married. They were blessed with four children - Michael, Timothy, Ruthe, and Christine - and would have celebrated 71 years of marriage this past May.
Marian was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Together, Marian and Arthur lived in Mandan for the rest of their lives.
She loved to sew and crochet and do many other crafts. Marian was very active and was a wonderful hostess. She could make all the meals and desserts for housefuls of company, which often stayed at her home, especially in the summer months. She had many friends and enjoyed playing cards and dominos. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and went on several cruises, visited many countries, and traveled throughout the U.S. She always brought back souvenirs for the kids and grandkids. Those who knew Marian knew she loved sparkles, glitter, and the color pink.
