Marge Benz, 76, Mandan, went to her heavenly home on April 15, 2014 at Sanford off Collins in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Gary Benz as celebrant and Rev. Shane Campbell as concelebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Marge was born on June 10, 1937, to Frank and Pauline (Binstock) Friedt in Mott, ND. Her family then moved to Schefield, ND, when she was a young girl.
Marge married Henry I. Benz on June 18, 1957 in Schefield, ND. They started their married life and building their family in New England, ND, they then spent a short time in Bowman, ND before moving to Mandan in 1968. Marge had a knack for getting to know people simply by visiting with them and within a short time they would share their life story. She had a fun sense of humor, a strong faith and most of all a generous spirit. Marge was an excellent cook known for her chicken noodle soup, with homemade noodles, snowballs, chocolate frosted banana cake, and her famous “Benz” dessert. Marge was also known for her hospitality. Nobody went home hungry, or without a piece of candy when visiting her home. She will always be remembered as the “Candy Grandma.” Marge was meticulous about her home. She loved decorating for every holiday. Some of her many hobbies included jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and word search books. Marge and Henry spent many hours camping and fishing with family. Her love for her family earned her the title of “The Best Mom and Grandma” in the world! Her family will always cherish the love and memories she created for them.
Marge will be deeply missed by her husband, Henry; sons, Rodney (Pam), Mandan, Kellen (Adonna), Mandan and Randy (JoDee), Bismarck; daughters, Carlene (Joe) Rothschiller, Dickinson and Jayne (Troy) Bernhardt, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lu Faller, Bismarck, Regina (Steve) Schwindt, Sidney, MT and Marlene Friedt, Dickinson; brothers, Mike (Fran) Friedt, Kingman, AZ, Robert (Char) Friedt, Dickinson, ND, Ed (Charlotte) Friedt, Eagle, Idaho and Dennis (Colette) Friedt, Gillette, WY and sister-in-law, Marlene Friedt, Dickinson.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Andrew Benz; brother, Jerome; brother-in-law, Leo Faller and sister-in-law, Josie Friedt.
