Magdalena Schaff

Magdalena Schaff, 99, Bismarck, formerly of Flasher, ND died March 18, 2015 at the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, ND with Rev. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery following the funeral service.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Magdalena was born on March 5, 1916 to Rochus and Rose Maria (Gerhardt) Schaaf in St. Anthony, ND. She was raised and educated in the St. Anthony area. Magdalena married Lenus Schaff on November 13, 1939 in St. Anthony. They were married for 39 years before Lenus died on October 1, 1971.

Maggie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was active in her community and in her church. She enjoyed doing volunteer work with the senior citizen club in Flasher along with being a member of the St. Maria’s Verein and The Rosary Society both of Mandan, Christian Mothers and the 55 + Club of Flasher. Magdalena was a talented seamstress and made beautiful quilts, loved to crochet and was the ultimate hostess and would treat her guests to the many favorite dishes she would cook. Her Family was always central in her life and she will be remembered by all.

Maggie will be deeply missed by her sons, Leonard (Geraldine), Haven, KS, Alvin (Judy, Mandan, ND) Huff, ND and David of St. Anthony, ND; 11 grandchildren, 19 great –grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Schaaf, Mandan, ND and sister, Clara Schmidt, Tacoma, WA along with numerous nieces nephews and friends.

Magdalena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lenus; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Cheryle Schaff; brothers, Philip and Christ (Clem) Schaff; sister, Julia (Steve) Schaff; sisters-in-law, Florence Schaff, Frances Thomas and brother-in-law, Mike Schmidt.
