Lorraine Kahl, 85, Mandan, died August 21, 2013 at her residence with her family by her side after a brief struggle with Leukemia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Johnson Kuriappilly as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:00 am.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 from 4:00-9:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 5:00 pm, Christian Mothers Rosary at 6:30 pm and Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Lorraine Kary was born to Joseph and Mathilda (Schneider) Kary on July 25, 1928 in Mandan. She was raised and educated in Solen. On August 30, 1948 she married Francis J. (Buddy) Kahl in Solen. After their marriage, she and Buddy worked on a ranch west of Mandan. After which she and Buddy established the Flying K Ranch, 60 years ago. They lived there throughout their lives.
A gracious, gentle and generous woman, Lorraine lived a full and active life. Family was her greatest pride and she loved them all. She never missed a graduation, wedding or other special occasion for her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Lorraine was an example of honesty and integrity and showed everyone around her the meaning of love. She and Buddy enjoyed traveling. After Buddy’s death, Lorraine continued to travel extensively. Lorraine was very proud of her ability to take care of her family, whether it was growing a garden, baking her homemade buns, or sewing clothes for them. She made beautiful baptismal gowns and tuxedos for her great-grandchildren. She gave of her time to her community in numerous ways. Being an active member of the 4H Club, Homemakers, TOPS, VFW Auxiliary and the Horse and Saddle Club brought her much enjoyment. Her dedication to her family was always evident, especially after Buddy’s stroke. She lovingly took care of him for 18 years.
Left with fond memories of Lorraine are her daughters, Karen (Steve) Boelter, Bismarck; Alice (Hugo) Fergel, Wichita, KS; Cheryl (Mark) Kjelland, Washougal, WA; Janel (Steve) Johnson, Duluth, MN; Patty (Mark) Mosbrucker, Mandan and Lori (Tracy) Sautner, Auburn, WA; sons, Rick (Sandy), Scott City, KS; Larry, Allen (Kaaren) and Randy (Christi), all of Mandan; Bruce (Angie), Calhan, CO; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Maggie Monzelowsky, Mandan; sisters-in-law, Peggy Kary and Agnes Kary, both of Mesa, AZ.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy; one son, Kenny; daughter-in-law, Gail Kahl; sisters, Anna (Pevis) Heck, Rose (Paul) Shaffer, Sr. Luella, Catherine (Jim) Garros, Tillie (Bill) Parkes; brother-in-law, Paul Monzelowsky; brothers, John (Appalonia), Alec and Ted.
