Lillian Kautzman, 84, Mandan, passed away September 7, 2016 at Elm Crest Manor Care Center in New Salem.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Selva Periannan as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Lillian was born on May 31, 1932 to Emil and Julia (Stein) Zander in Crown Butte, ND. She was raised and educated in the Crown Butte area. Lillian was very proud of her German heritage. Lillian married Jack E. Kautzman on November 1, 1949.
Lillian and Jack were truly a team; they worked side by side on the family farm and knew the meaning of hard work. Lillian had a fondest for the animals on the farm. She was a wonderful cook especially German recipes. Lillian was a compassionate person and never knew a stranger she didn't welcome into her home; she was easygoing and had many friends. She loved to cook, sew, do crafts and dance to polkas She and Jack won trophies at Polka Contests and she enjoyed the Sunday Polka Party. After their retirement, Jack and Lillian spent 14 winters in Arizona where they made many new and lasting friends. Above all, Lillian's family and faith were central in her life and she will always be remembered by her husband and children as the touchstone of their family.
Lillian will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 66 years, Jack, Mandan, ND; daughters, Sandra (Wayne) Smith, Mandan, ND, Colette (Dennis) Friedt, Gillette, WY and Jackie (Gene) Geiger, Minot, ND; son, Stacy (Suzi) Kautzman, Bismarck, ND; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane (Gary) Handley, Texas, Doris (Curtis) Dockler, Sacramento, CA and Linda (Dick) Broen, Bemidji, MN; brother, Gary (Flo) Zander, Mandan, ND; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Zander, Mandan, ND and Fran Zander, Bismarck, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Caroline (Tony) Knoll; brothers, Fred, Don, Loyd, Emanuel and Carl Zander.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Elm Crest Manor Care Center, New Salem, ND.
