Les was born on December 14, 1953 to Anton and Anna (Roshau) Froehlich in Dickinson, ND. He was raised and educated in Dickinson and Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School. He met Sheila A. Krank the summer of 1977 and the couple married three months later on August 20th in Dickinson. Les received his Associate degree in Electrical Technology from North Dakota State School of Science in 1978. He proudly worked as an Electrical Designer at Basin Electric Power Cooperative for almost 28 years.

Les and Sheila lived and raised their family in Mandan. He volunteered with the Big Brother Program, held multiple positions with the Mandan Cub Scouts and was on the Safety Committee at Basin.

The “Captain’s” year consisted of only two seasons; Walleye fishing and Pheasant hunting. He was always available to guide the outings. He had many skills and always used “his way” to solve life’s problems. To his family, he was an advisor, a mentor and an anchor. Most of all he was a friend that could be called upon at any time. His family filled him with pride and he adored his children and grandchildren.

Les will be deeply missed by his wife Sheila, Mandan, ND; daughters, Amber (Alex) Portillo, Driscoll, ND; Jordan (David) Russell, Ankeny, IA; and Schuyler Froehlich, Chicago, IL; son, Nathaniel Froehlich, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Taelan, Silas, Annastyn and Marley Russell, Ysabel, Sofia and Elise Portillo; sister, Peggy (Rande) Zander, Mandan, ND; brother-in-law, Jim Ferderer, Center, ND; sister-in-law, Yvonne Froehlich, Mandan, ND; and BFAMs, Alan Alpert, Lynn Riedl, Wayne Riedl, Melvin Meduna, and Phil Isaacson; and many nieces and nephews.

Les was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marla Ferderer; brother, Gerry Froehlich; and in-laws Elsie (Hauck) Krank, Cindy Alpert, and Ervin Krank.

The family welcomes camouflage attire at the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be donated to American Cancer Society (ACS) – Mandan, ND or ACS Sandra J. Schulze Hope Lodge – Rochester, MN.
