Leo Miller

September 16, 1929 — May 31, 2018

Leo Miller, 88, of Bismarck, passed away May 31, 2018 at the Baptist Healthcare Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Christ the King Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 4, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Leo was born on September 16, 1929 to John and Eiprosina (Ternes) Miller in Flasher, ND.  He was raised on the family farm near Raleigh and Flasher and attended Flasher Public School.  He married Ann Marie (Peggy) Gerhardt on October 18, 1949 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Flasher, ND.

Leo and Peggy purchased the family farm where they raised their 5 sons.  They were active in diversified farming and operated a dairy farm with their family.  They farmed for 28 years and then moved to Flasher where Leo purchased Flasher Implement, John Deere dealership in 1977 as a co-owner with John Zins.  While managing the sales department he won numerous awards through the John Deere Corporation.  He sold the business to his partner and continued as sales manager until his retirement in 1994.  Shortly after, Peggy passed away in November of 1995.

Leo was an active member in his community, proudly serving as district 35 Republican Chairman, President of the Flasher Development Corporation, and on the FMHA board.  He also took pride in being a member of the Mandan Moose, Flasher Knights of Columbus, St Anthony Verein and the St. Lawrence Parish.

Leo is survived by his four children, John (Joyce) Miller of Flasher, Steve (Denise) Miller of Bismarck, Kevin (Kristi) Miller of Flasher, Alan (Stacy) Miller of Mandan; 9 grandchildren, Melonie, Miranda, Tanya, Tyann, Bryan, Nicholas, Kyle, Jordan and Ashlie; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ann Leingang and Sister Rose Miller; sisters-in-law, Olivia Miller, Clara Gerhardt, and Kate Steckler; brothers-in-law, Al Makelky and Lib Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ann Marie (Peggy); his parents, John and Eiprosina; son, Ted; brothers, Stally and Pius; sisters, Lydia, Edvina, Agnes, and Lagotta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Healthcare Center
