Lawrence “Larry” Chester Vetter, 75, of Lincoln, ND, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Miller Pointe in Mandan, ND, with family by his side. A Memorial Service will be held at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan, ND, on April 28, 2023, at 1:30 pm, with interment to follow at 3:00 pm at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Larry was born on October 19, 1947, in Linton, ND, to Philip and Annie (Aberle) Vetter. He grew up in Linton and graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in 1965. After graduation, he moved to Bismarck, ND, and attended Capital Commercial Business College, until he entered the United States Army in 1967. He served in the Army from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Army, he built his life and home in Lincoln, ND. He became a carpenter and worked various construction jobs until he started working with a friend, Darol Brasgalla, in 1980, building homes together. They formed DLB Construction and worked alongside each other for 25 years. Larry was also a Building Inspector for the City of Lincoln.
Larry was a good friend to many and was known for his humor and quick wit, laugh, and smirk that turned into a smile. Larry could entertain his friends and family for hours with stories of his younger years, time in the service, work life, and everyday encounters. He enjoyed taking his truck out for drives around town and in the country, dropping in on family and friends for visits, and having coffee with lifelong friends he made at John’s store in Lincoln, ND, and the Oasis/Marlin’s in Bismarck, ND. He liked classic cars and motorcycles, reading books, and watching westerns. In his younger years, he had horses and liked to go on trail rides with friends and was very adventurous. Larry was a dedicated son, brother, godfather, uncle, and friend. Many of his neighbors and residents of Lincoln became special friends and were like family to him. He especially doted on an “adopted granddaughter, Paisley” and great nephew, Braxton. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his brother, Philip Vetter Jr.; his sisters, Viola Gefroh, Judy Loebs (Wes), and Marlene Perkins (Dwight); his sisters-in-law, Diane Vetter and Jane Vetter; his godchildren, Glen Gefroh (Lori), Rebecca Leonard (Rick), and Shauna Crane (Dion); his nieces and nephews, Lori Int Veldt (Adrian), Steve Gefroh, Carrie Nieuwsma (Todd), Sara Gefroh, Michelle Stessman (Casey), Brent Vetter, Kinley Vetter (Julie), Susan Schlosser (Steve), Kenny Vetter Jr., Jennifer Vetter, and James Vetter (Steve); great nieces and nephews; and many close and dear friends.
