Laura Marquart

April 13, 1933 — August 14, 2019

Laura Marquart, 86, of Bismarck, passed away August 14, 2019 in a Bismarck Hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Scott Bauman officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:30-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Laura was born on Maundy Thursday, April 13, 1933 to Fred and Rosina (Roesch) Lang of rural Tappen, ND.  After high school she attended Valley City State College to further her education and began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse.

On September 16, 1951 she married the love of her life, Jay Marquart.  They later moved to Driscoll, ND where she taught school and they raised their five children on their farm. In 1975 they moved to Bismarck where they eventually retired. After Jay died in 1993, Laura moved to a condo in town.

Laura enjoyed music and sporting events.  She and her family attended Charity Lutheran Church where she was a Charter Member.  She spent most of her retirement enjoying grandchildren, needlework, Bible studies, playing hymns on the organ, and was an auxiliary member for Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

One of Laura’s passions was making thousands of needlework JESUS magnets and sharing them with everyone. People who never met Laura, around the globe, have a purple JESUS magnet on their fridge!  Her undying devotion to her family and faith has been an inspiration to us all.

Laura and Jay were blessed with five children: Jerry (Cindy) of Bismarck, ND, Rhonda (Bill) Brown of Sterling, ND, James (Penny) Marquart of Shelton, WA, Joyce (Danny) Harvey of Los Angeles, CA, Jolene (Miles) Cahoon of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren: Michelle (Todd) Miller, Mike (Kristy) Brown, Teri Brown, Chelsea (Josh) Matzdorf, Joe (Emma) Brown, Steve Marquart, James (Corrie) Essex, Ashley Harvey, Katelyn Harvey, Dan (Hannah) Cahoon, Luc (Kayla) Cahoon, Trent Cahoon, and Alyssa Cahoon; 9 ½ great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertie Learn of Bismarck; and one brother, Reuben Lang of Seguin, TX .

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 8 siblings.
