Kody W. Wingerter (Wingnut), 50, of Mandan ND, went to heaven on April 19th, 2025 in Minneapolis MN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 26th at Weigel Funeral Home with Deacon Randy Frohlich presiding. Burial will follow in the St. Philomena Cemetery in Selfridge.

Visitation will be held 4PM to 6PM Friday at the funeral home followed by a 6PM Prayer Service and time of sharing.

Kody was born on March 13th, 1975 in Bismarck ND to Kenneth Wingerter & Mary (Pope) Wingerter. Kody was an adrenaline junkie/risk taker from the moment he was born. Whether it was BMX, hockey, motocross, & most of all, rodeo. Kody and his family lived on the Wingerter farm in Selfridge, ND where he attended school until 1983 when his father passed away. The family then moved to Mandan, ND, where he resided until he passed.

He was never meant for the “city life”, and always longed to be back on the farm. He was an excellent bareback rider, and was named the reserve champion of the Roughrider Rodeo Association in 1994. He shared his love for rodeo with his two daughters & also shared many rodeo stories with the family over the years. After he hung up his chaps, and left the rodeo industry, he started his lawn care business called Dakota Property Maintenance, which he had for many years. But if you know Kody, you know you can never keep him off of a horse, and he recently returned to the arena in 2023, and made his last ride in the Senior Professional Rodeo Association that spring.

His biggest attributes was his unintentional humor, and his big heart that he ALWAYS wore on his sleeve. He was a wonderful cook, once named “Chef Boyar Kody”. Not only could he cook, he was also one of the handiest men you’d ever meet. When he wasn’t busy fixing things for his mom, he gave most of his time to his pets. Even though he could talk for hours, his favorite company was his animals and the outdoors. He had many German Shepherd dogs & horses over the years, and took great pride in their relationships and how well they were taken care of. Kody was tough as nails, but had the softest heart for his pets and family.

Kody had a nickname for everyone in his life, and he never failed to use them. Taylor’s name was not Taylor, it was “Buttercup”, and Kayce’s was “Baby Kayce”. He and his friends also knew his mother Mary as “old mare”. He was absolutely one of a kind, and his sense of humor will be missed dearly. Kody will forever be loved and missed, but he is home with his dad, where he always wanted to be.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Wingerter; two daughters, Taylor & Kayce; mother of his children, Jenny; brother, Ken (Ann) Wingerter; nephews, Kenneth James Wingerter III-Thomas & Quinton John Wingerter; numerous friends & animals, Chief, Bear, Gus, Blaze, and Scout.

Kody was preceded by his father, Kenneth J Wingerter, Sr.; grandparents, Conrad & Bernadine Wingerter, & William & Gladys Pope; numerous family members and friends, Darrel Bigger, Frankie Raygo, Lefty, and many others; and beloved pets, Abby, Pard, Girly, Kash.

His family extends special thanks to the Sanford 4th floor SE nurses station for their loving care of Kody.

Following the committal service in Selfridge, a luncheon will be held at Mary’s house, 3601 42nd Street NW in Mandan. All friends are welcome to attend.
