Katherine R. Schultz, 86, Mandan, died February 8, 2016 at Sanford Continuing Care Center off Collins in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 12, 2016 at
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Katherine was born on May 11, 1929 to Joseph and Tina (Howard) Metzner in Fort Rice, ND. She was raised and educated in the Fort Rice area. Katherine married Alvin T. Schultz on June 7, 1948 in Fort Rice. Alvin and Katherine started their married life in Fort Rice and later moved to Mandan. Katherine was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they always brought a smile to her face. Katherine took pleasure in her pets; she always had a cat and a dog to love. She enjoyed gardening and her flower gardens were always beautiful. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Katherine never had a driver's license, she would walk wherever she went. Although efforts were made to teach her how to drive, she still preferred walking.
Katherine will be deeply missed by sons, Alvin (Bonnie), Bruce (Carla), Kelly (Becky) all of Mandan, ND and Doug (Kristin) of Bismarck, ND; daughter-in-law, Judy Schultz, Gackle, ND; grandchildren, Christi (Sonny) Sailer, Mary (KenDrick) Becker, Bill Schultz, Brennan (Fiancé, Shayla) Schultz, Devon (BreAnn) Schultz, Dessa Rae Schultz, Daria Schultz and Emma Dunbar; great-grandchildren, Tristen Sailer, and Adriana and Caden Becker; sisters-in-law, Ann Metzner, California and Jenny Metzner, Mandan, ND along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 1998; sons, Rodney and an infant son, Brian; sisters, Lizzy Piper, Madge Metzner, Louise Schaff and Theresa Metzner; brothers, Joseph Metzner, George Metzner, Bernie Metzner, Sam Metzner and Steve Metzner.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the North Dakota Humane Society in Katherine’s name.
