June Gratz

June (Husfloen) Gratz, 93, of Bismarck, passed away January 31, 2021, at Missouri Slope Care Center, Bismarck.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND with Deacon Bob Wingenbach presiding. Inurnment will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

A Viewing will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM prior to the service at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

June was born at home on June 8, 1927, near Price, ND, to Olaf and Pauline (Jacobson) Husfloen. She had three brothers and two sisters. June attended country school and graduated from Mandan High School.

June married Anton “Tony” Gratz on October 1, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. She furthered her education by attending Christy Beauty College.

June and Tony moved to Parshall, ND in June 1948, where they owned and operated Tony’s Bar and Barbershop for about 20 years. During this time, they enjoyed fishing and camping with their three daughters on Lake Sakakawea.

They moved back to Mandan in 1967. June worked part-time at Sears in Bismarck for 11 years. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time at their lake cabin. June loved to read and was a skilled seamstress and avid crafter.

June will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Deanne (Allan) Schaefer, St. Cloud, MN, Donna (Tim) Tergeson, Mandan, ND, Paula Messmer, Mandan, ND; 11 grandchildren, Daryl Schaefer, Karla (Schaefer) Wocken, Melissa (Tergeson) Wetsch, Lisa (Tergeson) Roberts, Sara (Tergeson) Martineson, Alana (Tergeson) Semchenko, Miranda (Tergeson) Combs, Robert Messmer, Paul Messmer, Ryan Messmer, Andre Messmer; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her loving Maltee-Poo named Pepper.

June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton “Tony” Gratz; three brothers and two sisters, Martin, Lilly, Debs, Herbert, and Ann.
