John was born on June 5, 1924 in Solen, ND to Nick and Celestina (Leingang) Hatzenbuhler. John was raised and educated in the Solen area. He married Florence Chadwick on October 13, 1947 in Mandan, ND. John was born and raised on his family farm in Solen and upon purchasing the farm from his parents, he and Florence continued to farm and ranch and raised their family there.
John’s faith and family were central in his life and he was truly devoted to both. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Church in Solen and recently became a member of Corpus Christi Church in Bismarck. John was a farmer at heart, raising both grain and livestock throughout the years. John was a good servant of the land and took extremely good care of his land and livestock. John was a kind and warm person who enjoyed the company of others; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Time was important to him and he was never late for anything; being on time for John was arriving an hour early. John enjoyed playing cards including pinochle, Russian Rummy and Shanghai. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino to try his luck at the slots. John enjoyed listening to old-time music, dancing to polkas and waltzes, and watching old Westerns on TV. John’s greatest joy was spending time at the farm with his family.
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Florence, Solen; sons, Wayne (Gloria) and Darryl (Bonnie) both of Bismarck; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Debbie) Hatzenbuhler, Carissa (Tom) Siebold, Jennifer (Paul) Schuh, Thomas Hatzenbuhler and Sarah (Will) Kucera; 8 great-grandchildren and sisters, Mag Balkowitsch, Caroline Kuntz and Irene Glasser all of Bismarck.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Celestina; sisters, Rose (Tony) Geiss, Betty (Tony) Kautzman and an infant sister; brothers, Tony (Louise) Hatzenbuhler and Jake (Frances) Hatzenbuhler; brothers-in-law, Bob Balkowitsch, Sr, Al Kuntz and Lawrence Glasser.
