A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Keith Streifel as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

John was the son of Paul F. Miller and Elizabeth (Haider, Schlinger) Miller. He was raised on the family farm in rural St. Anthony and attended Little Heart School in St. Anthony through the eighth grade. John was the youngest of nine children. John grew up being a hard worker and learning about the family farm. John took over many farming responsibilities at age 17 when his father passed.

He married the love of his life Lorraine M. (Bosch) Miller on May 29, 1963. They were blessed with three children: Charlotte, Daniel, and Dale. They built a homestead where he raised registered Angus cattle until he retired, and they moved to Mandan in 2009. Even after his retirement, his love for the farm and registered Angus cattle never ceased.

John was a member of many clubs, including the Bismarck Eagles, Mandan Moose, St. Anthony Verein, and St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a member of the Mandan Rural Fire Department for 25 years and served on the board and as chairman. He was honored as Man of the Year for the North Dakota Angus Association in 2008. He was also a member of the American Angus Association, Stockmen’s Association, Farm Bureau, and Farmers Union.

John is survived by his children, Charlotte (Rick) Zander and Daniel (Rita) Miller, all of Mandan, and Dale (Val) Miller of St. Anthony; eight grandchildren, Britni (Jarin) Schaible of Mott, Kayla Zander and Ricky Zander of Mandan, Dustin (Allison) Miller of Bismarck, Eric (Megan) Miller of Fargo, Nicole (Lee) Renner of Bismarck, Leslie (Mark) Lueders of Minot, and Gavin Miller of St. Anthony; great grandchildren, Alexia, Jocelyn, and Somer Schaible of Mott, Paxton, Luella, and Iona Miller, and Everly Renner, all of Bismarck, and Hudson Miller of Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; grandson, Jonathan Miller; parents, Paul and Elizabeth Miller; siblings, Joe and Andrew Schlinger, and Julia, Frona, Carl, Tony, and Marie Miller; and nephew, Harold Schlinger.
