John was born on July 2, 1941 to Steven and Catherine (Thomas) Haider in Bismarck, ND. He was raised and educated in the Solen area. John’s life was ranching. He was the 3rd generation to continue the tradition on the Haider homestead. Blue Roan horses and Black Angus cattle were his pride and joy and he would travel to Montana and Wyoming to look at new horses. He bought his first Angus calf when he was 18 years old. There was nothing about the ranching life John didn’t like. John married Judy D. Schaff-Wetsch on March 13, 1985 in Mandan. Together they worked the ranch and enjoyed time spent traveling. They enjoyed the Calgary Stampede and attending different conventions and meeting for the North Dakota Stockman’s Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and The American Angus Association, of which John was a lifetime member.
John was an easy-going, generous and hardworking man that would give of his time and knowledge. His neighbors were also his friends and he would help anybody that asked. John’s favorite saying was, “There just isn’t enough daylight!” He enjoyed a good homemade cookie which he called “Suga Kuchen”. John’s family was also very important to him. His step-children and grandchildren were always central in his life. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Judy, Solen, ND; step-daughter, Shelly Salter, Bismarck, ND; step-sons, Scott (Karen) Wetsch, Gillcrest, CO) and Jason (Kim) Wetsch, Brainard, NE; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Ann (Matt) Hatzenbuhler, Mandan, ND and Kathy Kramer, Battle Creek, NE; brothers, Leonard (Lenora), Ray (Geraldine) and Bob (Sharon) Haider all of Mandan, ND; father-in-law, Phillip Schaff, Mandan along with numerous nieces and nephews.
