December 31, 1934 — December 31, 2018

Jeanette M Sagmiller, 84, of Mandan passed away on her birthday, December 31, 2018 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.  The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the First Lutheran Church in Mandan, ND.  Interment will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery following the memorial service.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan where remembrances can be shared.  Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.

Jeanette (Stradinger) Sagmiller was born on December 31, 1934 in Dickinson, ND.  She was one of 13 children to Carl and Rose (Hoffer) Stradinger.  She attended Dickinson public schools and graduated from Dickinson High school.

Jeanette and Richard Sagmiller were married in 1957 and they were together nearly 46 years until Richard’s death in 2003.

She was a railroad wife who raised her two boys and attended many family events, school programs, football games and wrestling matches that her husband could not attend due to the work schedule of a railroader.

She took on lots of jobs as she was raising her kids.  An expert seamstress, she sewed many Catholic school uniforms, cheerleader uniforms and later wedding gowns for the same girls.  What started out as a sewing job brought the girls and their families into Jeanette’s circle.

Golf became a passion with Jeanette and she was an accomplished golfer.  She and the mothers of her sewing clients regularly golfed together and they kidded each other mercilessly.

Jeanette served on the Mandan Park Board from 1996 – 2004.  She put a lot of energy into her position and will be remembered as an avid golfer, hard worker and funny person. She was also very giving, and every year Jeanette donated her Park Board Commissioner salary back to the park district to give back to the kids.

She owned her business as a tax practitioner for more than 40 years.  On the surface she laughed and joked a lot, but under that jovial and sometimes brusque exterior she always took her work seriously.   She enjoyed every tax season with the expectations of seeing her long time clients again and being able to swap stories about grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At home, Jeanette’s the person neighbors depended on to feed their pets or watch their house while they were away.  She looked forward to getting her outdoor decorations on display each Christmas season, going so far one year as to have her neighbor install her decorations in their yard because she could see them better than when they were in her yard.  They complied, resulting in multiple blown fuses.

Jeanette was generous and loving.  She went out of her way to take care of the people that she loved.  She loved her grandchildren deeply and greatly enjoyed their times together.

She will be deeply missed by her 3 brothers and 3 sisters, many nieces and nephews, son and grandchildren.  Her clients will miss the yearly tax season gauntlet that had them sitting across the desk from her sharing stories and, oh yeah, getting their tax returns done.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and her son, Greg.
