Janice was born April 6, 1945, in Bismarck, ND, to Mike and Loretta Braun. She grew up on a farm in rural Logan County. Janice attended country school and told stories of riding a horse drawn wagon to school. When the country school closed, Janice attended high school in Napoleon. Living 12 ½ miles from town, with no buses at that time, she stayed in Napoleon during the school week with another Braun family so she could get to school each day. Graduating from Napoleon High School in 1963, Janice then moved to Bismarck where she lived at Boniface Hall while attending Mary College. City life didn’t suit Janice well and she realized it was time to move back home.
On July 18, 1964, Janice married Alvin Glatt in Napoleon. They made their home on a farm north of Napoleon. Life as a farm wife and mother brought Janice’s true joy. Farm life was a beautiful life. She enjoyed the animals, her kids’ horses, especially their favorite horse, Sunny, a Shetland pony that would end up in her living room from time to time. The routine was the same from week to week. The work could be hard and the hours could be long, but it was still so enjoyable. It was simple. Faith, family, and then everything else. Cellphones and social media were not needed. Janice truly understood Facetime, she saw people’s faces in the flesh, around the kitchen table sharing a meal or coffee, visiting or playing cards. She enjoyed many activities including participating in Homemakers Club, teaching CCD, and spent countless hours visiting in Gramma’s kitchen with friends, neighbors, and cousins. As an only child, her cousins were like siblings to her. Especially Howard who was like a brother. She told stories of them growing up, things they did, and other cousins they spent time with. Janice was able to continue doing many of the things she loved for many years.
In 1986, Janice and Alvin moved off the farm and into Napoleon. They relocated to Bismarck-Mandan in 1998 and Alvin continued to have health issues that needed constant attention, which she faithful took care of until the time of his death in 2008.
Janice is survived by her children, Kim (Kevin) Ressler, Kevin (Kim) Glatt, and Kelly Glatt; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ryan (Jackie) Ressler and their children, Sloan and Shanly; Lindsey (Jermece) Slappy and their children, Micah, Aiyah, Noah, and Aja Joy; Madison Glatt (Kameron Nagel), Presten Glatt, Kenzie and Harper Glatt, Kamern Glatt, Kody (Taylor) Glatt, Kinlee, Kash, Kazlee, Brylee Kory(Molly)Glatt; In-laws, Teresa Glatt, Bill Glatt, Dave (Laura) Glatt, Julius Bosch, Johanna and Larry Bosch, and Anthony Glatt Jr.; and many cousins and friends.
