Irene Ternes, 81, Bismarck, passed away September 13, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Msgr. James Braaten as celebrant and Rev. Marvin Klemmer as concelebrant. Burial will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Raleigh, ND.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 from 3:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Irene was born on April 17, 1935 to Pete and Agnes (Schwalich) Kopp in Raleigh, ND. She was raised and educated in the Freda, ND area. Irene married Baldwin Ternes on November 24, 1953 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church. They lived and raised their family at Shields, ND until their retirement in April of 2000 when they moved to Bismarck, ND.
Irene moved to St. Gabriel's Community in August of 2014 until her death.
Irene was a homemaker and dedicated to her growing family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening and embroidering. She cooked and baked for 3 years at the Prairie Learning Center. Irene was a caring and giving person that would always help when needed. She was outgoing and loved to visit and see her many friends.
Irene will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 62 years, Baldwin, Bismarck, ND; daughters, Leonella (Mike) Garr, Rapid City, SD, Henri (Ray) Heidt, Bismarck, ND, Claudina (Dennis) Ferderer, New Salem, ND, Debbie (Lelyn) Will, Bismarck, ND, Mary Ann (Dean) Heidt, Rapid City, SD, Trisha (Dewey), Helbling, Lincoln, ND, Aggie (Ron) Eastham, Bismarck, ND, Stephanie Ternes, Madison, SD, Connie (Randy) Friesz, Page, ND and Roxanne Drogen, Buffalo, ND; sons, Terry, Anna, TX, Robert (Brenda), Sheilds, ND and Scott (Bobbi), Rapid City, SD; daughter-in-law, Sandra Ternes, Grand Prairie, TX; 30 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edvina (Matt) Hersch, Rapid City, SD, Hildagard Berger, Rapid City, SD, Elsie Melton, Oregon, Rosie Klym, Bismarck, ND and Ann Meyer, Arizona; sister-in-law, Lenora Kopp, Fargo, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends, along with the ones she made at St. Gabriel's.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Herbert and Joseph; grandchildren, D.J. Ferderer and Jasmyn Knippling; great-grandchild, Avery Garr; sisters, Olivia (Vincent) Gross, Frances (John) Nedved and Florence (Hank) Wolfe; brothers, Victor, Leonard, Joe, Ted; sister-in-law, Christina Kopp; brothers-in-law, Bill Berger, Fred Melton, Marvin Klym and Don Meyer.
