Irene E. Bruning, 82, Bismarck, passed away November 27, 2013, at Osborne Health Services, Scottsdale, Arizona.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, December 5, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bismarck. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 1-8:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer service starting at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Irene was born February 7, 1931 to Jacob and Rose Kuntz on the family farm in Morton County. She attended grade school and helped on the farm. On September 11, 1951 she married Gerald Bruning, a smart and caring man with golden hair. With Gerald, she bore and raised six children, David, Valerie, Alan, Rose, Robert and Alyce. Irene had a spirit of adventure and lived in Albuquerque, NM for a bit. She also lived in Solen, Bismarck, and most recently, Phoenix, Arizona. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, embroidery, pinochle and winning at bingo.
She loved being with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog, Gertie. Irene was a spunky woman who never hesitated to let you know how she felt. She loved meeting new people and always had sweets for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her daughter, Rosemarie Schacher; her grandson Cory Bruning; her parents; her brothers, Vince, Jake, Alphonse and Paul Kuntz; her sisters, Caroline Balkowitsch, Bertha Lutz and Ann Heintz; her brothers-in-law, Charles (Corrine) Bruning and Bobby Bruning and her sister –in-law, Irene Reinhardt.
Irene is survived by her children, David Bruning, Brenda Bruning, Valerie Grina, Alan Bruning, Robert (Kathy) Bruning and Alyce (Joe) Deegan; her grandchildren, Gerald Lee, Carl, Billy, Kate, Kirsten, Corrine, Carmen, Kayla, Michael, Jessica, Bryan, Jason and Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Trea, Lily, Alec, Elin, Ella and Alex; her brothers, Willie (Helen) Kuntz, August (Bernice) Kuntz and Joe (Carol) Kuntz; her brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bruning and Fred (Lois) Bruning; her devoted dog, Gertie and many other family members and friends.
