Howard David Frederick Sr., 79, of Mandan, ND, formerly of Belcourt, ND, peacefully passed away on July 26, 2023, after a battle with lung disease.

Howard was born in Belcourt, ND, to Alex and Mary Frederick on January 28, 1944. Howard was passionate about family, music, fishing, and hunting. He dedicated his life to both his family and his career.

After graduating from Minot State University with his Bachelor of Arts in Business Finance, he started his first job as an IRS Agent. This kickstarted his career in finance. From there, he went on to work for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians as a Director of ManPower Programs. He then went onto work as an Assistant Superintendent/Finance Director for the Belcourt School District for 35 years. Howard married his wife, Nanette, in 1975, and they have two children, Dawn and Howard Jr.  Howard always put family first, and was a dedicated husband and father.

Howard was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive man. His quick wit was one of his notable characteristics. A true pillar of his community, his knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. 

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Mary; brother, John; sister, Joyce; In-laws, Martin and Ilean; and brothers-in-law, Lowell and Lionel. Howard is survived by his wife, Nanette; his two children, Dawn (George) Poitra and Howard (Kelli) Frederick; three grandchildren, Xander, Henley, and Maxon; and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at St. Anne's Church in Belcourt, ND.  Visitation will begin at 8 AM on Thursday with a Rosary at 9 AM followed by the funeral service. Lunch with the family later at SkyDancer Hotel and Casino Event Center. Burial will be held at a later date.
