Hildegard M. Miller, 89, Bismarck, died March 6, 2014, at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a CDA Rosary at 6:00 pm and a Parish Vigil at 6:15 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Hildegard was born on May 9, 1924 to John and Angeline (Leingang) Eckroth in Odense, ND. She married Albert Miller on November 19, 1945 in Fort Rice, ND. They made their home in the St. Anthony area and farmed until 1967 when they moved to Mandan.
She worked for many years in the housekeeping departments of the Mandan Hospital and Mandan Care Center. She was very active in her community and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and would deliver Holy Communion to the homebound members of the church. She would also volunteer at bingo. She loved to garden and would can the fruits of her labor. She also did beautiful embroidery and had a knack for making strudel which was always enjoyed by her family.
She and Albert loved to travel and would take bus trips across the United States. They had an exciting trip to Yellowstone National Park when they encountered a bear. They loved to camp and fish in the area.
Hildegard will be deeply missed by daughters; Diane (Bob) Schlosser, Mandan, Lillian Johnson, Mandan, Vivian (Del) Wetsch, Mandan, LaVonne Hawley, Eucho, OK and Lorene (Del) Balkowitsch, Bismarck; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Genieve Haller, Minneapolis, MN, Rosella Kuhn, Mandan, Lorraine (Gene) Hatzenbeler, Mandan and Viola (Robert) Klesalek, Shawmut, MT; brothers, Albert (Alice) Eckroth, Mandan, Donald (Delanis) Eckroth, and Ray (Priscilla) Eckroth, Mandan and sister-in-law, Phyllis Eckroth, Mandan.
Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert in 1996; son, Wayne who died in 1969; Valentine and Marion as infants and sister Elizabeth Miller; brothers, Alex, John, Adam and Jake Eckroth; brothers-in-law, Ralph Kuhn, Robert Haller and Edward Miller; sisters-in-law, Judy and Ethel Eckroth.
The family requests memorials to Brightens of Mandan.
